
In 2008, NEN launched the Chizami Weaves livelihood project for women in the Phek district of Nagaland. It started from the persistent vision of a women's organization called Northeast Network (NEN). Chizami Weaves started with 7 weavers. This number has increased to 600 at three locations in Phek and Kohima counties. The project aims to provide a sustainable livelihood for economically disadvantaged women by promoting and preserving Nagaland's unique textile traditions. Currently, Chizami weaves has a strong network of over 300 women from 10 villages in the Chizami and Phek regions. Chizami Weaves not only market their products, but also has has ambitious plans to redefine gender justice for women.
