Brand
KHAMIR is a platform for the crafts, culture, heritage and ecology of the Kachchh region of Gujarat. KHAMIR works to enable rural creative industries in Kachchh to become profitable and a model of sustainable economic practice. KHAMIR also provides a common roof where artisans and experts with a commitment to craft practice can exchange knowledge, build capacities, offer supportive services and conserve natural and cultural heritage.
Khamir is a space for interaction and development of Kutch's artisan heritage. It stands for Kutch's heritage, art, music, information, and resources. Khamir means "inner pride" in the local language and "ferment" in Hindi. Khamir was founded after the 2001 earthquake as a platform for the efforts and development of crafts, legacy, and cultural landscapes in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Their vision is to establish a vibrant and sustainable Indian handicraft sector where handicrafts and craftsmen are equally respected by people around the world. At Khamir, they strive to build a democratic and empowering space. This is a common umbrella where different stakeholders can share ideas and collaborate. And iTokri is more than happy to be partners with Khamir.
