Godana paintings are inspired from everyday life of villages in India. It is a traditional art form of Sarguja, Chhattisgarh. The new version of godana is actually a transformation of godana (Traditional Tattoo) done on the body in Chhattisgarh region of India.

The Chhattisgarh Handicraft Development Board (Or Chhattisgarh Hastshilp Vikas Board) which is an undertaking of the Government of Chhattisgarh was established in the year 2001. The main objective of the Board is to achieve all round development in the field of Handicrafts and to revive the vanishing crafts with the help of training and to provide maximum employment opportunities to the traditional and non- traditional craftsmen for the constant progress of the handicrafts.
