Material	Neran embroidery done on this beautiful cushion cover. Made up of mashru fabric with hand embroidered mirror work done by craftswoman in Kutch region of Gujarat. Artisanal Community : Sodha Rajput. Traditionally cattle herders and agriculturists, they are the most recent migrants to Kutch. In this community, women wear an embroidered Choliand jacket after their marriage. Their embroidery style is mainly referred to as Pakko (which is predominantly used) and also comprises other stitches such as Neran, Kharek, Kambhiri. Their patterns are similar to that of Meghwar. Other than the embroidery, they do patch-work and applique. The Rajputs, who are historically the protector-warriors, as a community are conservative. The women of these clans are not allowed to go outside their faliya (colony). Embroidery is the only livelihood option for women of this densely populated community and hence comprises a fairly large share of Qasab’s creations.

Brand	Qasab was set up as an initiative in 1997 to revitalise the embroidery craft of Kutch and reposition its cultural diversity by designing a business model that could not only create sustainable livelihood opportunities for embroidery craftswomen in the remote areas of Kutch, but also become a platform for them to express their creativity. Qasab in Kutchi means craft skill. The Producer Company ensures that the artisans earn a dignified income and these creators of such exquisite embroidery secure monetary benefits that are rightly theirs. Qasab has been formally structured and registered as a Producer Company owned by traditional craftswomen. It is a collective,socio-cultural enterprise comprising 1,200 rural master craftswomen from 11 ethnic communities spread across 62 villages in the arid interiors of Kutch. It has been for the last seventeen years re-interpreting and re-positioning the traditional embroideries of Kutch, building on the styles of each of the communities associated with the producer company.
