Maheshwari handloom weaving started in the 5th century and is one of India's finest hand loom fabric traditions. Woven in cotton and silks, it has a statement style comprising of stripes, checks and floral designs. The use of zari into the weaving of these sarees add a royal shine to them and the border is woven in such a way that saree can be worn both ways, there is no front and back of the saree. Maheshwar is the town of magnificent temples and forts which greatly inspires the weavers and hence these majestic monuments are displayed with zari in the form of motifs on Maheshwari sarees.
