Synopsis/ Description
In 1929, five workers of the Maharashtra Film Company, under the tutelage of Baburao Painter, left its gates to set up an independent film company, the Prabhat Film Company. After initial success, they moved to Pune, and established Prabhat Nagari, a fully functional studio with state of the art facilities. After more than two decades of producing some of the masterpieces of the early talkie era, the Company was liquidated and officially shut down, sold in the auction to a certain Mr Kelkar who rented the studios to other film companies for shooting and also planted trees for his perfume factory. In 1959, the Government acquired Prabhat Nagari and in 1961, the Film Institute of India, a training centre for students of film was set up. The Film revisits the ghosts of the Prabhat through the memories of those to whom the space has been faMilliar, dear and sacrosanct for decades.
