This particular Copper enamelling pendent is hand crafted by our team of artisans from the western ghats of Maharashtra, India. Copper Enamelling is the age-old craft of fusing glass onto the copper surface for color enrichment. The glass powder is laid onto the copper surface in the requisite patterns and the assembly is heated to700 to 900°C, at which point the powdered glass melts to form a coat on the copper surface. This glass enamelling not only lends its vibrant colors to the copper surface, but also prevents it from oxidising, thereby rendering it more usable. The stringing is done by a traditional Patwa artisan using ecofriendly cotton or faux leather strings and wooden beads.

EkiBeki is a hybrid social enterprise that works to preserve the rich craft heritage of India and promote traditional arts and crafts in contemporary forms. Our products are hand crafted by the talented artisans living in small remote villages of India. Due to modernization and lack of patronage, many Indian handicrafts are on the verge of extinction and are rapidly getting replaced by artificial, cheap and imitation products. At EkiBeki, our vision is to revive the folk arts and crafts of India and help generate sustainable livelihoods for artisans with a special focus on rural women and youth. Through design interventions, capacity building, market development and creation of self- governing mechanisms, we aim to help the artisans grow the community craft clusters in their natural habitat.
