|Filmmaker/s Bio Note/s||Amrita Dasgupta is a Delhi based writer and film maker. A post graduate in English and Mass Communication, she has experience in research, scripting, production, media teaching and consultancy. Amrita’s keen interest in children and education issues began with fun learning television series Khullum Khulla. It continued in her first PSBT produced independent film, Let Them Blossom… on the relevance of early childhood education. In addition to film related work, Amrita has prepared content for UGC post graduate courses. She has authored books including a picture book for children under publication with National Book Trust.|
The New Girl in Class explores the possibility of mainstream education for children with autism.After trying for years, Neeraja has got Roshni, her daughter with autism admitted in a regular school. The film moves between present challenges that confront mother-daughter duo in school and recollections of Roshni’s early years. Does Roshni eventually manage to cope with her new routine? Does it really make a difference to her life and learning? The New Girl in Class poses these and more questions in the context of education of children with special needs.
