Chorida village of Purulia, West Bengal is internationally famous for making chhau masks used in chhau dance. More than 200 artisans of this village are involved with this craft. Dharmendra Sutradhar is one of them. Dharmendra Sutradhar, 33, started making masks when he was 10 years old. He inherited the cultural heritage of this craft from his father, the late Gopal Chandra Sutradhar. Like many other artisans of this village, Dharmendra has also adopted the style of chhau dance being the son of this soil. Masks made by him have been displayed in various national and international arenas with high esteem. His unique style has brought fame for him and given him an identity in this field.
