Wama or Women Artisans Marketing Agency, an organisation, dedicated to working for the upliftment and betterment of the rural artisans of Kutch, is run by a social enterpreneur Smita Jain. Smita provides raw material supply, training, quality control, design development, value addition and marketing support to these small groups of artisans at grass root level. She then markets the products developed and the income generated is again ploughed back for development of their skill and providing them with better and upgraded living and working conditions. As of date she is working with and supporting 500 artisans on a continuous basis. She does not believe in doing charity just by donating a part of its profit for a cause. She believes that development of everybody involved is a natural byproduct of ethical business practices. The only way it can sustain itself and its artisans is through sales of these products. Thus Smita continues to support any project which she sees beneficial for the underprivileged artisans of Kutch through whatever means she can. A 20 year old journey of promoting and uplifting Kutch handcrafted and handmade creations. The main objective and vision of Wama is to be able to bring these beautiful pieces of art and craft to every home worldwide with a focus on making it accessible and affordable.These artisans and crafts communities need support and cooperation more than ever today and Wama will do everything possible in their capacity to ensure that.
